An introduction to the considerations necessary to create gender-inclusive workplace environments. Topics covered include gender transition employee support plans, co-worker communications, facilities usage, guidance for name, pronoun, and other changes, understanding workplace responsibilities, respectfully addressing political, faith, cultural, and other differences in a diverse workplace.

Just two decades ago, the presence of a transgender or nonbinary identified person in the workplace was either nonexistent or largely unknown to employers or employees. Today, gender-diverse people are an increasingly visible part of a labor force that is often challenged to optimize their employment needs. Beyond the employee’s needs, employers are negotiating the complexities that come with this inclusion. Societal misperceptions, stigma, and political volatility are hard to overcome and available resources to guide the process are difficult to find. Beyond the topics of pronouns, names, and bathrooms, what do we need to know in order to address the needs of everyone – the trans employee, the employer, and their coworkers? This session is designed to address some of these questions in a compassionate, respectful manner that considers every person and the perspectives unique to each one.
